Workplace Violence Prevention Annual Plan Review and Training
2025 Compliance Reminder
As of July 1, 2024, California’s general industry workplace violence prevention standards are in effect. These regulations require all covered employers to maintain a comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) and provide employee training on the plan.
Even if your business established its plan and conducted training in 2024, ongoing compliance is required. In 2025, employers must:
Review the effectiveness of their existing WVPP. This includes evaluating all procedures—even those that haven’t yet been tested in real-life scenarios—to ensure they remain appropriate and effective.
Engage employees in the review process. The regulation requires meaningful employee involvement during plan evaluations.
Update the plan as needed based on findings from the review.
Conduct a hazard inspection, especially if there have been changes in the workplace that could introduce new risks.
Additionally, annual employee training is required. All employees must be retrained in 2025, even if they received training in 2024. Training should take place after the annual review and any plan updates are complete to ensure content is current and relevant.
Now is a good time to schedule your plan review and training to stay in compliance and support a safe work environment.
